Fairview Office Park in Baxter

Implementing LID as part of a green strategy

Janelle Riley never set out to be an environmental advocate. As the co-owner and president of Syvantis Technologies, a Baxter area firm specializing in technical infrastructure and accounting systems, she holds degrees in mathematics and accounting. Until recently, she had never heard of the term low impact development (LID), nor had she heard of raingardens, porous pavement or bioretention areas.

Using LID and other eco-firendly cost saving measures, Janelle and her family were able to design the Fairview Office Park in a way that will save $460,000 over the first ten years of operation.

Cost Saving Measures
Reusing materials  - $27,700
Optimized heating-cooling - $150,000
Reducing paved areas - $15,000
Preserving woods and using native landscaping - $175,000
